Client: Sour Lemons
Materials used: Stoneware clay, underglazes and a kiln.
Inspired by my ceramic earrings, the founder of Sour Lemons, Sade Banks commissioned me to make them some ceramic merchandise.
Being a member of the Sour Lemon's Creative Leadership Programme, I have a personal connection and understanding of the brand. I knew how important being able to bring home a piece of the Sour Lemons energy, ethos and support would be for the staff and cohort.
Brief: Recreate the Sour Lemons logo into 14 ceramic ornaments as merchandise to be gifted to the rest of the cohort and staff. they can have a little piece of Sour Lemon's in their homes.
Process:
> Briefing meeting with client to understand the brief.
> Briefing meeting with client to understand the brief.
> Sketch, design and work out logistics (1 day)
> Meeting with client to discuss official timescales and costs.
> Order materials.
> Make trial pieces (3 days).
> Review, revise and make necessary adjustments.
> Make final pieces (3 days).
> Make object functional and package (1 day)
> Deliver to client.
(Making)
> Design a stencil (out of paper).
> Carve x5 trial clay lemons.
> Leave for 12 hours under a weight.
> Paint using underglaze colours.
> When dry apply stoneware transparent glaze, ensuring no glaze is on the bottoms.
> 24 hours in the kiln (12 hours firing, 12 hours cooling).
> Review, revise, edit and repeat process for the final pieces.
(Functionality)
> Sew through with the hanging material and clasp.
